Name: Joon Eoh
Age: 32
Occupation: Scientist
What brought you to Baltimore Built? I’ve always been interested in olympic weightlifting and tried learning on my own but pretty quickly hit a wall and decided I wanted some coaching. My friend and I were looking for gyms in the area and we found out about Baltimore Built. I went from 1-1 coaching sessions with Sarah, to the occasional drop-in and now I'm a full time member. Came for the coaching, stayed for the people… and coaching. Sarah's a great coach!
How long have you been a member at Baltimore Built? About 3 months now.
Were you athletic or involved in sports when growing up? If so, what sports and or activities did you participate in? I played tennis for 10 years and I thought I would play in college, but injuries got in the way.
Were you weightlifting regularly prior to joining Baltimore Built? If so, what were you doing? I had been lifting consistently starting my senior year of high school and over the years it gradually shifted from more bodybuilding to circuit type training like CrossFit.
What do you like most about weightlifting? The technical aspect of it. It requires full body coordination, dedication and commitment. I guess in a way it reminds me of my job where I'm constantly tinkering with things and just trying to figure stuff out.
What is your favorite lift and why? I have a love/hate relationship with the snatch just because it’s so fun, but also i’ve been hurt so much mentally and physically by it.
What have you accomplished as an athlete (big or small) during your time at Baltimore Built? Hitting PRs in all my lifts like presses, snatch, C&J and front squat. I’m glad I haven’t peaked yet.
What weightlifting goals do you have for the next year? Keep chipping away at the technical aspects of the lift and get stronger in my legs. I’m very top heavy.
How has your fitness influenced and/or impacted your life outside of the gym? It’s taught me to be pretty calm and steady in the face of adversity. If I'm about to enter a pretty important meeting, I know in the back of my mind “hey at least I snatched 76 kg that one time”
What hobbies and activities do you enjoy outside of the gym? I’d say spending time with my wife and dog as well as cooking. An ideal weekend for me is taking it easy at home, cooking and watching the Texas Longhorns or Ravens play.
