January 2023 Athlete Of The Month

Name: Charles Taylor

Age: 36

Occupation: Electronics Technician and Full-Time Student

How long have you been a member at BBS&C? 7 months

Were you athletic or involved in sports when growing up? I was never really athletic growing up. I played sports with my friends but I only played 1 year of organized football.

Were you working out regularly prior to joining BBS&C? If so, what were you doing? Yes. I started working out 3 years ago. Initially I worked out to lose weight. Then I got into running because I was never good at it and it was a challenge. After running a couple half-marathons, covid & injury stopped me for a while.  Now I’m here.

Why do you workout? Strength, health, and mental health.

What is your favorite lift or movement and why? My favorite lift changes but currently it’s front squats because it’s one of my better lifts and it highlights my knee recovery.

What is your favorite workout or type of workout and why? I love strength work. Since having covid, cardio in general is a struggle. I don’t really have a favorite workout in that area but I appreciate them all because they really challenge me (Well, all except the assault bike. I hate that one.).

What have you accomplished as an athlete (big or small) during your time at BBS&C? My biggest accomplishment has been realizing that “can’t” is a lie, more often than I think. I’ve gotten a lot stronger mentally & physically because of the BBS&C team.

What fitness goals do you have for the next year? Get stronger and work on balance & stability.

How has your fitness influenced and/or impacted your life outside of the gym? My mental health is a lot better when I’m consistently in the gym. I’ve met so many positive people because of fitness. And I generally feel better.
