August 2022 Athlete Of The Month

Name: Katlynn Red

Age: 29

Occupation: Caregiver

How long have you been a member at BBS&C?   3 Months

Were you athletic or involved in sports when growing up? Yes, I played soccer and softball. I was a goalkeeper and played 2 years at CCBC Essex.

Were you working out regularly prior to joining BBS&C? If so, what were you doing? No, not at all.

Why do you workout? To lose weight, gain muscle to help my knee pain & overall feel better physically & mentally.

What is your favorite lift or movement and why? Back squats because I feel the most confident with the movement.

What is your favorite workout or type of workout and why? I love group fitness and high intensity workouts because of the support of others & the mental component of having to keep pushing myself even when I think I am tired.

What have you accomplished as an athlete (big or small) during your time at BBS&C? I have lost 20 lbs & this is the most consistent I have been in working out in over 7 years.

What fitness goals do you have for the next year? I want to lose 40 lbs & be able to do unassisted pull ups, double-unders, & I want to be able to play in a competitive soccer league again.

How has your fitness influenced and/or impacted your life outside of the gym?  I use to wake up everyday and feel so depressed because I would not go for a walk or commit to a workout yet it was on my mind 24/7. Before BBS&C I was not active for many years which is how I gained 70 lbs. This past January I had a knee injury and that was my wake up call to get healthier. My fitness has impacted my gratitude I have for being able to workout. Now, I have more energy, confidence, and happiness. I am more focused on myself & my goals professionally, physically & mentally.
