June 2022 Athlete Of The Month

Name: Lisa Ann Kim
Age: 27
Occupation: Program manager at Baltimore City Public Schools
How long have you been a member at BBS&C? 1 year
Were you athletic or involved in sports when growing up? I grew up practicing ballet for about 10 years but never really played sports (my lack of hand-eye coordination is a little embarrassing.)
Were you working out regularly prior to joining BBS&C? If so, what were you doing? I ran and did pilates but never really lifted weights heavier than 10 lbs.
Why do you workout? To feel healthy and strong. Also having an hour in my day to be solely focused on myself and my body – it helps me keep mentally healthy.
What is your favorite lift or movement and why? Deadlifts usually but I’m coming around to appreciating cleans.
What is your favorite workout or type of workout and why? Anything not too long or crazy LOL. I do like trying new things and being challenged though, and I like when WODs have a mix of strength and cardio.
What have you accomplished as an athlete (big or small) during your time at BBS&C? Being less scared of the bar??? I just learned how to kick up against the wall into a handstand, which is fun.
What fitness goals do you have for the next year? Doing a PULL-UP and back squatting my bodyweight. Eventually I would like to climb a rope.
How has your fitness influenced and/or impacted your life outside of the gym? Honestly it’s cheesy but the coaches at Built have really changed how I see what I’m capable of. So much of working out here has been re-training my brain to know I’m strong and I can try new things, even when I fail. I’m really thankful to all the coaches and this community for being so welcoming. Tim and I are moving soon but we’ll be back from time to time, hopefully – Built is fam!
