Name: Rashawn Cumberbatch
Occupation: Asset Protection Supervisor
How long have you been a member at BBS&C? I have been a member at Baltimore Built Strength and Conditioning for 11 months.
Were you athletic or involved in sports when growing up? Growing up I was involved in a lot of sports. As I got older, I found my niche in track & field competing in events such as the 400m, 800m, and 1600m. I also loved the team events: 4×4 and 4×8.
Were you working out regularly prior to joining BBS&C? If so, what were you doing? When I joined Baltimore Built Strength and Conditioning, I was not working out. Quarantine had gotten the best of me resulting in a 60 lbs. weight gain.
Why do you workout? After putting on an unnecessary 60 lbs., I was very unhappy with how I looked and how I felt. In the past 11 months, I have learned that consistency and commitment are the tools to help me maintain a healthy lifestyle. Now, I workout to stay healthy and strong.
What is your favorite lift or movement and why? My favorite lift is the back squat because it is the movement that I have seen the most improvement in. When I started, my form was terrible and I was not able to move much weight safely. The more I did it, the better my form became and the more progress I saw.
What is your favorite workout or type of workout and why? My favorite workout is any type that has running in it. It allows me to combine something that I was passionate about in my youth with a new area of fitness that I am growing to love. Also, during a running workout I am able to pace myself better and have a better handle on my engine.
What have you accomplished as an athlete (big or small) during your time at BBS&C? The biggest accomplishment that I have achieved as an athlete is the improvements in my mental strength. I have never been confident in my Olympic lifts, especially after suffering a somewhat severe shoulder injury in December when completing a snatch. With the help of the awesome coaches at BBS&C, I have been able to fully recover, gain the confidence needed to complete the lifts, and lift more than I ever had before.
What fitness goals do you have for the next year? This time next year, I would like to be participating in competitions.
How has your fitness influenced and/or impacted your life outside of the gym? Outside of the gym, my fitness has given me confidence in myself that I have not felt or had since being in the military. I find myself constantly pushing my limits and rising to the challenges that the gym and myself set.
