Name: Ben Garner
How long have you been a member at BBS&C? 3 months
Were you athletic or involved in sports when growing up? Football, basketball and wrestling. I played Left Guard and Power Forward and was always very stocky.
Were you working out regularly prior to joining BBS&C? If so, what were you doing? Yes, I was working out with Megan Thrasher at the UA Performance Center in the City. She really helped me build the fundamentals and confidence needed to transition into working out with Baltimore Built
Why do you workout? When I work out, I’m able to unplug from the stress that comes with my job and daily life. I’m a very competitive person and consistently working out allows me to push myself to achieve my physical goals and milestones.
What is your favorite lift or movement and why? Prior to joining Baltimore Built, I would have never said this…but Front Squats. I’m starting to feel a deeper range of motion and feel this movement is integral to almost every other olympic lift we practice.
What is your favorite workout or type of workout and why? I enjoy workouts for time. I usually set a time goal prior to starting and try to push myself to beat the time.
What have you accomplished as an athlete (big or small) during your time at BBS&C? I’m down about 12lbs over the past 3 months and am seeing a noticeable difference in my physique. This is working!
What fitness goals do you have for the next year? I’d like to RX the Murph! I didn’t participate this year, but I hear this is a great metric for overall fitness. Lofty goal, but I’ll push myself to achieve it.
How has your fitness influenced and/or impacted your life outside of the gym? Overall, I feel great! I’m back in a routine and start almost every day of the week at the gym. Because of this, I am able to have a consistent schedule and have been more productive at work. The compliments on my progress from friends and family aren’t bad either!
