Name: Jennifer Willis
Occupation: Project Coordinator for MD/DC Deafblind Project
How long have you been doing CrossFit? 8 years
What is your favorite lift or movement and why? The Snatch. I used to hate this lift because I struggled with it so much. I remember chasing a 55lb one rep max for as long as I could remember, and I think back to that every time I use that weight in a workout now and feel pride in overcoming that challenge. It reminds me that the work does equal the reward, even if it takes longer to get there than we’d like it to.
What is your favorite workout or type of workout and why? Annie. I love it because it’s short and sweet, and it contains movements that are in my wheelhouse.
What are your fitness goals for the next year? My goals are to maintain consistency, increase the # of kipping pull-ups I can do in a set, improve my split jerk, and PR my clean. Hopefully if I aim for lots of things at least 1 will get accomplished! How has CrossFit influenced and/or impacted your life? I was introduced to CrossFit by Sean Whittaker, and I will be forever grateful to him for helping me develop a passion for this type of fitness, introducing me to Dom, and being that first encouraging voice who believed in me even when I thought I wasn’t capable. It’s not only CrossFit, but rather the CrossFit Baltimore family that has helped me become stronger both physically and mentally. I have made memories and developed lifelong friendships there that can never be replaced. I’ve also learned the power of achieving things you didn’t think were possible given perseverance and encouragement from coaches who genuinely see the potential in each one of us.
