How long have you been doing CrossFit? Since November 2019
What is your favorite lift or movement and why?
Back Squat. It feels good to load the barbell up with a ton of weight. I love the moment when you lift the bar from the rack and take a deep breath before sinking into a deep squat.
What is your favorite workout or type of workout and why?
I can’t wait to get back to the days where we can combine a heavy, low-rep strength workout with an exhausting WOD. I really enjoy WODs that involve rounds of decreasing reps. Mentally, it really helps me push through the current round, knowing that the next one will be easier. I’m less likely to over-conserve energy.
What are your fitness goals for the next year?
My main motivation for signing up in the first place was to get to an overall healthier place, but especially to lose some weight. I’m definitely making noticeable progress in that area, so I’m really looking forward to ditching the gut I’ve been carrying around for years. I’m also excited to get closer to Rx in the WODs and actually performing some of the more difficult movements unscaled.
How has CrossFit influenced and/or impacted your life?
CrossFit is really the first fitness program that has really clicked for me. Going to the gym for me was always sporadic and, when I did make it, I often failed to hold myself to high expectations. In every CF class I’ve ever attended (about to pass the 100 mark), I’ve benefited from the encouragement of my coaches and my fellow athletes. While my current fitness level has always been respected, I’ve been given the tools to see beyond and push just a little further every time. I have honestly never so looked forward to getting in the gym and getting my butt kicked by an intense workout. But, really, it is the sense of community and the shared goal of functional fitness that has made all the difference for me.
