October 2019 Athlete Of The Month

Name: Kelsey Roberts
Age: 30 (31 in less than a month!)
Occupation: Detective with Baltimore City
How long have you been doing CrossFit? 3 years ish
What is your favorite lift and why? Back Squat. It has always been a lift
that has made me feel powerful and always cheers me up on a bad day. I can never be
unhappy when it is back squat day!
What is your favorite WOD and why? Any Hero WOD, but especially
Murph. CrossFit is always a close knit and supportive community. But that is never felt more
strongly by me than when we all come together to do a Hero WOD. These WODS are
extreme challenges both physically and mentally, which I love. They are also WODs that
bring all different types of people together to show love and support. This means a lot to me,
especially since I have lost co-workers and a friends while working with the BPD.
What are your goals for the next year? Hopefully to do some
competitions (Maybe even a few RX)! Also to join the 300lb Deadlift club. What is the point
of dreaming if you cannot dream big!
How has CrossFit impacted your life? A long time ago now, I used to
weigh over 220lbs. I lost the weight through working out and dieting. However, I still had a
lot of issues with self-confidence, body image, and with food. One day my friend Sara Goins
told me I should try CrossFit and took me to her gym back in VA. I was hooked and binged
everything CrossFit. It increased my self-confidence immediately and improved my
relationship with food. I never knew I could be so strong and do any of the things we all do in
a WOD. Never knew I could have so much fun by going through so much struggle (the
struggle is so real sometimes. I am talking about you, Snatch. Calling you out!). No other type
of workout or fitness has ever made me feel more accomplished for myself and others. That
feeling when you PR, when you are lying on the floor having given it your all, when your
classmates come over and give you a high five. It is a high I will never get tired of. Nothing
beats it. Nothing.
