Baltimore Built by Anthony Morisi

The 2018 CrossFit Open has ended and, for all of us here at CFB, it is time to start looking forward to the next year of training leading up to 2019 CrossFit Open. It’s funny because I treat this time of year like most people treat January 1st. This is our New Year! This is the time to reflect on the past year and set goals for the year to come. As our community grows and matures, we are always focused on providing our athletes with the best quality programming and coaching to have them reach their goals. We have noticed that many of you have been coming in early and/or staying late to work on skills or put in extra sets to get stronger. Some of you have even been following competition programming from other gyms or websites with the goal of optimizing performance and competing in the “sport” of CrossFit.
With this in mind, and in an effort to provide all of our athletes with smart, well-thought out programming, we are excited to be rolling out “Baltimore Built”. This new program will be designed for those athletes who have that performance/competition driven set of goals and have the time to dedicate 2+ hours a day to training. This will be a 5 day weekly program with Thursdays being active recovery and Sundays being rest. We will be running multiple training cycles throughout the year that will prepare athletes for the CrossFit Games Season. This will be a very demanding and comprehensive program designed to improve your fitness in all areas.
The setup is simple. Athletes who wish to participate in the program will attend our CrossFit Class as usual. The CrossFit Class will be the base of the program and will serve as the primary work for the day. The “Baltimore Built” program will contain additional work for athletes to complete however they see fit and/or however their schedule allows. For the time being, the additional work will be completed in an Open Gym format. Athletes may choose to complete the additional work before or after class or in a separate session all together. We will be incorporating olympic weightlifting, metabolic conditioning, accessory strength work, strongman training, gymnastics, interval work (bike/rower), track sessions, midline/core work, endurance training, etc… into our “Baltimore Built” program.
The “Baltimore Built” program is intended to be done in addition to the CrossFit Class and is not a substitute. If you only have time for 1, join the class and get after it! Our CrossFit Class will not change and will continue to be a well rounded fitness program that, when done correctly and consistently, will get you super fit. For most of our athletes, the CrossFit class is just the right amount of work and intensity to lead a fit and healthy lifestyle while maintaining balance and wellness. “Baltimore Built” is for you gym rats who are spending 2+ hours a day in the gym anyway and may lack a little direction or purpose in your training.
This new program will start next week with our new training cycle on April 2nd. This is going to be an awesome year of fitness and community and we can’t wait to spend it with our CrossFit Baltimore family! Let us know if you have any questions.
