November Athlete of the Month

Name:  Margaret “Peggy” Beard

Age:  is just a number…and that number is 40.

Occupation:  RPSGT aka Sleep Tech

Length of Time CrossFitting:  Off and on since 2013 – most recently – I would say about 1 year.

Favorite Lift/Movement and Why? It’s a toss-up between the deadlift – because it’s easy and straight forward – pick it up and put it down, and the clean & jerk – because it’s complex and needs good technique.  I’m still working on getting the clean & jerk technique down, but when I hit a good one, I feel really good about myself.

Favorite Workout/Type of Workout and Why? I like EMOMs or couplets.  They are both simple to understand.  With EMOMs I know what I’m supposed to do and when I’m supposed to do it.  With couplets, I just need to remember to bounce between two movements.

Goals for the Next Year?  I have so many goals. I want to get a pull-up, and climb that darn rope!  I also want to continue to work on my overall fitness, leaning out and building muscle.  I want to work on building my confidence in the gym, improve my technique on some of the more complex movements, and I would like to get over some of my fears – like box jumps.

How has CrossFit Impacted your Life?  CrossFit has really helped me gain confidence in all aspects of my life.  I gain confidence every time I enter the gym, and I hope to continue to do so.  I’ve also made a lot of great friends at CFB and feel like I’ve really found a place where I can just be me.
