December 2023 Athlete Of The Month

Brittany Fullerton

Name: Brittany Fullerton

Age: 32

Occupation: Software Project Coordinator

How long have you been a member at Baltimore Built? Since August 2023

Why did you decide to join Baltimore Built? My friend (Michelle Komrower) was telling me how much she loves her gym, so I decided to come try it out and I thought it was great so I haven’t left since!

Were you athletic or involved in sports when growing up? If so, what sports and or activities did you participate in? Throughout elementary school I played soccer and did gymnastics, then in high school I played some lacrosse and ran.

Were you working out regularly prior to joining Baltimore Built? If so, what were you doing? Prior to Baltimore Built I was doing a lot of running and cardio workouts. I decided I wanted to focus more on strength training and I’m so glad I made the change.

Why do you workout? For my mental/physical health and so I can have functional independence when I’m older. Also, so that I can carry all the groceries inside in one trip like a badass. 😊

What is your favorite lift or movement and why? I like squats and deadlifts a lot because they’re a bit easier for me and I have seen the most improvement in those movements.

What is your favorite workout or type of workout and why? I like doing any workouts with barbells or dumbbells. I love pushing myself and being able to track my progress with numbers.

What would you tell someone who is nervous about starting a strength and conditioning program? I would tell them that they just need to take it one small step at a time and trust the coaching. I was so nervous and intimidated when I started, but that went away very quickly when I focused on my own abilities and built myself up from there.

What have you accomplished as an athlete (big or small) during your time at Baltimore Built? I’ve already reached goals with weight that I never expected. I also did not get discouraged by it being hard in the beginning and I’m proud of myself for that.

What fitness goals do you have for the next year? In 2024 I want to continue hitting PRs for lifts, stay consistent, and be able to do a headstand pushup!

How has your fitness influenced and/or impacted your life outside of the gym?  SO many ways. Fitness helps with my energy levels, mental health, attention span, relationships, and work ethic. I feel much more clear headed and like the best version of myself when I’m consistently exercising.
